Christmas and New Year's Eve in St Barts

At the end of December, St Barts lives its busiest week of the year. Here is what to know to plan your stay, and why it pays to book early.

The festive mood on the island

Between Christmas and New Year's Day the island is full. Gustavia harbour fills with yachts, restaurants are fully booked and the evenings go on and on. It is also high season: dry, sunny weather and warm sea (see the best time to visit St Barts).

New Year's Eve in Gustavia

At midnight, fireworks light up the sky above Fort Oscar while the boats in the harbour sound their horns together. You can watch from the Gustavia quays, from a restaurant, or quietly from the villa.

Book early: tip number one

Villas and hotels are often booked a year ahead for this period. Small-plane flights between St Maarten and St Barts, and the ferries, also fill up fast. If you are aiming for the holidays, book your accommodation and transfers as soon as your dates are set.
